Why Sunescape is my MVP tanning product this winter…

I’ve basically tried every single fake tanning product out there, so you can really take my word for it when I say that Sunescape is a fantastic product. I’m such a fake tan connoisseur that I even compartmentalise my tanning products into subcategories – because you know…some are better depending on the circumstances…it’s a thing okay. Anyway, Sunescape is truly my favourite for winter because: – It’s not too dark. Sunescape offers two shades in their mousse range; a Week in Fiji and Month in Maui. Even their darkest shade promises a natural looking tan. Now I am all for a dark tan, but definitely not in winter. I steer clear of many of my favourite brands in winter because it looks so unnatural. – It works quickly. Whilst I will often sleep in my tan to let it develop overnight, I have used Sunescape in the morning and washed it off 4-5 hours later, to still find I have a really decent colour. It’s perfect for when I have events on in the evening, because sleeping in tan is never ideal. I mean, …

Get Healthy Hair with Davroe for Summer

So I’m a firm believer that maintaining healthy hair makes you feel and look better. Naturally, my hair is a rare colour of auburn – so basically a shade of red. Yes I’m a red head! I love my natural hair colour because it suits my complexion, and it’s very unique. However I’ve also experimented with countless shades; black, blonde, dark brown, red-red, deep purple (yeah don’t ask…). Anyway, recently, I made the decision to give blonde another go. My previous experience with becoming a blonde was a disaster, so I was very nervous about it. This time round, I LOVE my colour, and intend on staying this way for a while, so it’s been really important for me to look after the health of my hair with the help of quality products.  I’m finding that using the Davroe range has helped my blonde colour stay nice and ashy (rather than becoming yellow) and the conditioning treatments help my hair to stay sleek and soft. Here’s a breakdown on what I’ve been using and why …

Day Time/Natural Makeup That Won’t Scream OOT

Okay so finding the right balance between a natural look and then too much makeup for broad daylight can be troublesome to say the least. I’m talking makeup that is suitable for casual brunch catch ups, trips to the shops and sneaky afternoon drinks. Nothing feels or looks worse than girls who pound on layers of makeup when the sun is shining and exposing all those unblended and patchy areas of foundation, not to mention that false eyelashes for a day time activity is a big no-no! I can sum this ideal balance up for you in three words; base, brows and lashes (all real of course). If you can get these three elements right then you’re well on your way to perfecting day time/natural looking makeup. But here’s my ritual outlined with all the products I use: Step 1: Prepping the oven (skin) So I would HOPE that you’ve all moisturised already! If not, this is step one every day, even when you’re not applying makeup. I use Chanel Hydra Beauty Creme. Next you’ll want …

False Eyelashes: Making Them Work For You

Many women shy away from false eyelashes because they’re delicate and tricky to apply. But if you can master the application of falsies (it’s actually not that hard) then you’ll soon learn that false eyelashes make the perfect, yet subtle, enhancement to your overall makeup look. Finding the right style of false lashes is the first trick – you don’t want to look like you’re dressing for the Mardi Gras (well generally that’s the case anyway!). You want to go for a set that are not too thick or long – we like the natural yet glamorous look. I have a few favourites that I use, depending on my look/the occasion. For the understated lash enhancement (and for beginners) always go for the ¾ or ½ false eyelash. Not only do they look inconspicuous – yet effective – but they are really easy to apply. My pick is Ardell’s Accent variety. For fuller, longer looking lashes, when you’re going for darker, more accentuated makeup I like to use Eyelure Naturalites Natural Texture. Remember, false lashes can …

The Evolving Fake Tan Phenomenon: From Orange to Essential

I love a good tan; it makes your teeth look whiter, your legs look longer and your outfit look better. I’m often mistaken for a naturally olive skinned individual. But that’s only because I have perfected the art of fake tanning. Circa 2006, fake tan was a contentious beauty product. Fake tanning was often frowned upon as a dirty and tacky thing to do, in a futile attempt to make ones skin darker. With many less than adequate products available, women often abused fake tan and ended up boarder line shades of ‘pumpkin’. The problem was that these products were not that good, and they did terrible things to the skin when they were wearing off – i.e. blotching, drying, even scaling the skin. If you could perfect the fine art of fake tanning a good 10 years ago, you were doing better than most. But today, fake tan has come a long way, and it’s actually a fundamental part of my personal beauty prep for any key social engagement. I don’t tan naturally. I …

My Evening Makeup Look

When it comes to night time makeup, I usually stray from using blacks. I’m not a fan of thick eyeliner and prefer eyes to look sultry, yet not heavy or dark. My preference is in using brown and bronze tones. This works particularly well because I have auburn hair, but I believe using a neutral palette works on most skin tones and hair colours. Going for a more natural look is the way to go, and finding a good routine (with good products) that are long lasting, will make this very achievable and help you avoid the urge to use too much makeup. Prep and Prime I’ve spoken in depth around a good skin care routine; you can read about it here. So as I have previously mentioned, I always moisturise before applying makeup. It hydrates the skin and will also make for an easier application. After you have moisturised, apply a good primer. My go-to primer is a Laura Mercier that has a subtle shimmer in the formula which makes your skin glow. A Light Foundation If …
