Spring Racing 101

It’s finally that time of year again…Spring Racing carnival. My absolute favourite time of year, that combines fashion with socialising and of course a very historical sporting event! This year I teamed up with Oscar Oscar to prepare my race day hair looks for each event, and here I speak to the team about my hints and tips if you’re planning to hit the track this coming week. Check it out now!

Day Time/Natural Makeup That Won’t Scream OOT

Okay so finding the right balance between a natural look and then too much makeup for broad daylight can be troublesome to say the least. I’m talking makeup that is suitable for casual brunch catch ups, trips to the shops and sneaky afternoon drinks. Nothing feels or looks worse than girls who pound on layers of makeup when the sun is shining and exposing all those unblended and patchy areas of foundation, not to mention that false eyelashes for a day time activity is a big no-no! I can sum this ideal balance up for you in three words; base, brows and lashes (all real of course). If you can get these three elements right then you’re well on your way to perfecting day time/natural looking makeup. But here’s my ritual outlined with all the products I use: Step 1: Prepping the oven (skin) So I would HOPE that you’ve all moisturised already! If not, this is step one every day, even when you’re not applying makeup. I use Chanel Hydra Beauty Creme. Next you’ll want …

A Useful Guide: ‘Casual Friday’

The concept of ‘Casual Friday’ is office jargon that is usually undefined, which leaves employees (especially new to the workforce employees) feeling uncertain on the actual appropriateness of what ‘casual’ means to their respective employer. Here’s my guide to Casual Friday to help you defog the ambiguity of the common workplace tradition. Firstly, if you know you have external meetings, or important internal meetings ABORT Casual Friday! At the end of the day, as great as it is to tone down your wardrobe and feel comfortable, you are at work and it’s important to remain professional. So if the day’s schedule calls for it, best to keep it corporate. As a rule of thumb, I generally make sure one piece of my outfit is still quite corporate. For example, I might wear casual black pants, a t-shirt and then a blazer. Or, a pencil skirt with a t-shirt. But a super easy option is a neat casual dress with tights and boots (winter) or sandals with a thick heel/wedge (summer) – no more than 10cm …

My Evening Makeup Look

When it comes to night time makeup, I usually stray from using blacks. I’m not a fan of thick eyeliner and prefer eyes to look sultry, yet not heavy or dark. My preference is in using brown and bronze tones. This works particularly well because I have auburn hair, but I believe using a neutral palette works on most skin tones and hair colours. Going for a more natural look is the way to go, and finding a good routine (with good products) that are long lasting, will make this very achievable and help you avoid the urge to use too much makeup. Prep and Prime I’ve spoken in depth around a good skin care routine; you can read about it here. So as I have previously mentioned, I always moisturise before applying makeup. It hydrates the skin and will also make for an easier application. After you have moisturised, apply a good primer. My go-to primer is a Laura Mercier that has a subtle shimmer in the formula which makes your skin glow. A Light Foundation If …

The Importance of Eyebrows

The importance of eyebrows, and well maintained ones at that, is something I cannot stress more. I myself was guilty of eyebrow negligence until I hit the age of about 22. By negligence, I don’t mean waxing – most women have that under control (although if you don’t please get on to it, because that’s the most primitive step to great eyebrows). Now picture this; you’ve lathered on your moisturiser, primer, foundation, powder and bronzer. You have slicked winged liner like a goddess. In other words, your makeup looks fab. So you leave the house feeling great and ready for a night out. But hang on…you didn’t touch your eyebrows. So despite applying about 5 different products to your skin, you haven’t touched your brows… Unless you have the most gorgeous, thick, dark eyebrows a girl could have, your poor unattended eyebrows can’t possibly look their best with all that other gunk on your face. Am I painting a picture yet? Here’s some celebs with and without their eyebrows – which is essentially what you …

5 Staple Items Every Young Professional Woman Needs

If you are required to dress corporate for your job, then you probably endure the same daily struggle that I do, where your brain has an internal battle between ‘must look good’, ‘must look appropriate’ and ‘I am too tired to think’. Now, truthfully, even I have my days where I just ‘don’t have time’ to put the effort I’d like into my work wear. Some days, I will just chuck on whatever I can find and hastily shove my hair into a donut and pin it back. I’ll even walk into the office with the most basic makeup on, in an attempt to get to my desk before 8:30AM. With all that in mind, I will make an effort to dress thoughtfully around 90% of the time for work days and believe that young women in a sea of black suits and white shirts should and can, dress their age and still look both stylish and professional. Staple Items You Need in Your Wardrobe…Pronto 1. The most fundamental item that every corporate woman should have in …
